Block Island, RI 6/1/25-7/2/25
Founded in 1661, Block Island wound up being a nice choice for an extended stay. While the weather was more rainy and foggy than typical, there were plenty of pleasantly cool days while the South was experiencing a heatwave. The summer dockhands at New Harbor Boat Basin were friendly and helpful. Zuly’s many walks on the beach, meeting crabs and ducks and curious people who have never seen a spaniel, inspired frequent naps. We visited most every landmark and lighthouse, hiked most of the trails, visited every store (the local bookshop was a favorite), and ate at many of the restaurants. Sushi at The Oar restaurant was notable. Edward finished up the course work and passed the exam needed to apply for his Captain’s license, and also found a local to give him a haircut. Wade visited for a long weekend and much was discussed!
